While Blizzard Entertainment is offering a new PvE event in Overwatch with Retribution, players should not expect a real-world story campaign in the near future. This is too much effort overall.
The fans of the multiplayer shooter “Overwatch” ask the responsible developers of Blizzard Entertainment for a story campaign. However, Game Director Jeff Kaplan once again emphasized that this is an unattainable desire, as this would be too much work for an already available game.
“We would love to do it, and the idea is very overwhelming, but for us it’s about as if we were developing a completely new game, which is a lot of work,” Kaplan said in an interview with Eurogamer. However, he is not sure if the fans are aware that this would be a brand new game. Finally, “Overwatch” was designed as a PvP-Tite. Whether one should do this game, one will continue to discuss in the future.
In the near future you should not expect a real story campaign. “I wish we could do more for everyone, and I think retribution is a great example of how to use the possibilities very skillfully,” Kaplan said. One was aware that one creates a PvE-specific event. However, the created Rialto map was so convincing that you wanted to use it in both PvE and PvP.
In the future, the focus could be on creating content that includes both PvE missions and PvP maps.
